Breaking Down Surrogacy Conversations with Strangers
See how we navigate conversations with strangers? Very mindful. Very demure.
But in reality…
Navigating conversations about surrogacy with strangers can feel like tiptoeing through a minefield. Even for us pros, it’s a tricky terrain to navigate. Whether you’re an Intended Parent, a Surrogate, or an egg donor, finding the right words can be hard.
So, let’s break it down into three simple parts.
1️⃣ First off, remember that most folks don’t have a clue about surrogacy.
If they are firing off questions left and right, it’s probably because they’re genuinely curious, not trying to put you on the spot. Be patient and gentle with your explanations.
2️⃣ Next, know your audience.
If you get the sense that the person is more on the conservative or religious side, tread carefully. Avoid topics that could lead to a heated debate. It’s all about keeping the peace and finding common ground.
3️⃣Lastly, your surrogacy journey is yours to share.
You call the shots on how much or how little you want to reveal. There is no pressure to spill all the beans if you’re not comfortable. Your comfort and confidence come first.
Just remember, it’s totally okay to set boundaries and keep some things private when chatting about surrogacy. Your journey, your rules.
