A good match involves more than a point on a map. Location affects travel and practical planning, but medical readiness, legal suitability, communication, and shared expectations also matter. Golden considers those pieces together.
In this video, Frank explains Golden’s preference for regional matching when an appropriate match is available. He highlights a particular concern from his own experience as an Intended Parent: getting home with a newborn. When a suitable regional match is available, parents may have the option of driving home instead of boarding an airplane.
Why location matters
Think beyond the trip for a first meeting. Consider the fertility clinic’s location, screening and transfer travel, the expected delivery location, and the Intended Parents’ arrangements for returning home with their baby. A nearby match can simplify some of those logistics, but it does not eliminate every trip.
Your Surrogate may still need to travel to your fertility clinic. Prenatal care and delivery planning are separate considerations. Ask your team to describe the likely travel pattern for the particular match under discussion.
Regional preference is one part of compatibility
A closer address should not take the place of careful screening or mutual agreement. The proposed match still needs to fit the participants’ needs and the requirements of the professionals involved. A family with specific preferences may have a different set of available matches from another family.
Tell Golden early about work schedules, travel limitations, support arrangements, and your hopes for contact during pregnancy. Be clear about which preferences are essential and which are flexible. This gives the matching conversation more useful detail than a distance limit alone.
Questions to ask about a proposed match
- Where would medical screening and embryo transfer take place?
- Which appointments could take place closer to the Surrogate’s home?
- What travel and overnight stays should each person plan for?
- How would prenatal visits and delivery updates be coordinated?
- Which location-related questions need to be reviewed by our independent attorneys?
Plan for a remote agency relationship
Golden’s team is fully remote. You can discuss matching, receive updates, and work with your Care Team without visiting a Golden office. In-person clinical appointments remain part of the medical process when required by the treating providers.
